IWK Resource Recovery Centre

Keeping Kaikōura
Beautiful

Our vision is to send zero waste to landfill. We currently divert approximately 56% of our waste away from landfill.

IWK are working with the Kaikōura District Council on a range of developments and upgrades to make sure we are doing all we can to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle effectively.

If you live in the catchment area for Thursday or Fridays kerbside recycling collection but don't have two green recycling crates, you are able to purchase these from the weighbridge on site.

What can be dropped off at the
Resource Recovery Centre...

IWK's (Innovative Waste Kaikōura) aim is for zero waste to landfill. For that to happen we will take most waste or broken materials and things you no longer need and try and find a second life for them. This might be by reselling them in our shop, by recycling them, or by turning it into a new product like compost.

The Resource Recovery Centre consists of a second hand shop, a recycling drop off point; a metal, e-waste, timber and tyre depository; a compost system and even a spot for your agrichemical containers.

We are open Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri 9:00 am until 4:00 pm

9am - 12 noon on Tuesday
Weekends & Public Holidays 10:00 am until 4:00 pm

Anzac day open from 1pm - 4pm
Closed Waitangi Day, Good Friday, Marlborough Anniversary Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day.

DROP-OFF
ZONE

At the Resource Recovery Centre you can drop-off anything that you can put out for collection from the kerbside.

This includes:

metal and
e-waste
drop-off

Visit our metal area and drop-off any metal products and objects. We also take batteries, old car batteries and small household batteries. We will take e-waste, computers, TVs as well as cars, fridges and other larger whiteware items.

If you're unsure have a word to our helpful staff and they will be able to advise you.

second
hand shop

Our shop of pre-loved good aims to get people reusing the things they don't want any more. We sell a vast array of stuff from furniture and clothes to books, kitchen implements, games and miscellaneous knick-knacks. Come in and leave what you don't want. But don't leave until you have bought something else.

We also collect and re-sell electrical items. Read More

hazardous
and other
material

There is a load of other things we will take off your hands as well (anything to stop it going in the landfill!) such as hazardous chemicals, oil (including used cooking oils), paints and tyres.
