IWK Green Waste & Organic Compost
Organic Compost...the breakdown
Our composting process ensures all food waste is turned into nutrient-rich compost. Using IWK’s food waste recycling service ensures food waste and compostable material is not sent to landfill.
We accept all quantities of Greenwaste over the weighbridge ($80.00 per tonne) and it goes through the process of composting.
To recycle green waste at the Kaikoura Resource Recovery Centre, it must not be contaminated or contain non-acceptable materials (See details below) as complying green waste is shredded and used in our hot composter.
When the compost is ready it is sold by the scoop for $60, roughly 1m3 or in 40L bags. It is sold when the compost is ready and isn’t always available. You are welcome to call ahead before you come up with your trailer to make sure there is some available on site.

Paper towels, compostable packaging and tableware:
The move away from plastic packaging has resulted in an increase in compostable alternatives for every day items such as coffee cups, food trays, cutlery, food packaging, etc. We at IWK are continually looking at ways to provide positive environmental outcomes whilst disposing of this kind of waste. We will continue to pass on our findings to our consumers.
